Pervious concrete
LFHCM-3301
The pervious concrete is a special type of concrete having a void structure which allows water to freely percolate through the concrete into the groundwater. The concrete is manufactured using aggregates with a discontinuous granularity curve, which has to be defined as per the application. The low quantity of fines or their absence creates this void structure that allows the passage of the water, through the macro pores, into the sub-grade. The void structure when coupled with an aggregate sub-base will slow the rate of runoff and temporarily stores substantial quantities of storm water.
The permeability obtained is of approximately 80l/m2/min.
The consistency of the pervious concrete, measured by the compaction method, shall be generally lower than 10 mm.
The thickness and sub-base preparation should be determined in correlation with the application as structural requirements will define the pavement design.
Applications: pedestrian walkways, access roads, parking lots.
The main benefits obtained using this type of concrete are related to minimizing the degradation caused by the stagnating waters and also environmental as it allows the gradual transfer of the water to the terrain, avoiding the risk of saturation.
In public works, the pervious concrete contributes to the control of the volume and debit of the storm water, reduces the quantity of pollutant substances, helping in improving the quality of rainwater that reaches the sewage system.
Well casted, the pervious concrete becomes a durable product that doesn’t require expensive maintenance.
